Final Farewell for Zanele Mbokazi at Durban ICC

Today, the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban was filled with family, friends, and fans as they gathered to pay their final respects to media personality Zanele Mbokazi. The beloved founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards passed away on Monday, 12 August, following a brave battle with lung cancer.

Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, known for her passion as a presenter and her deep love for people, was remembered fondly by the thousands of mourners, artists, and pastors who attended her memorial service. Yolanda, an actress who portrays Nomalanga on Sibongile & The Dlaminis on Mzansi Wethu, spoke of Zanele’s unwavering support and encouragement, which helped push many into new opportunities.

Among the mourners was eSwatini musician Timothy Myeni, who, along with others, bid farewell to the Ukhozi FM presenter during a memorial service held at the GNF church in Durban.

Jabulani Langa shared his sentiments on social media, saying, “We were supported in every dream and idea we had. It’s difficult, but my parents raised us to know God. Even in this situation, when words fail us, we still come before Him because He knows our hearts. We are hurt, but I say thank you.”

Yolanda also reflected on the brief time since her mother’s diagnosis, noting that it had only been three months since the devastating news. Despite the short period, the outpouring of love and support from the community was immense. She expressed gratitude for the love they felt even after Zanele’s passing, sharing that by Monday, just after her mother’s death, the memorial and funeral services were already being arranged.

The memorial service for Zanele Mbokazi was marked by live performances from gospel musicians, with mourners joining in to sing and dance in her honor.
