In an emotional tribute at the memorial service for his ex-wife Thabiso Sikwane, DJ Fresh delivered a public apology that left many deeply moved. The DJ and podcaster, who had previously apologized privately to Thabiso and their children, felt compelled to express his remorse publicly, stating, “I’m sorry, my friend.”
The couple, who were married for 20 years before announcing their divorce in February 2022, maintained a close friendship despite their separation. Their enduring bond was evident just days before Thabiso’s passing, as they shared a candid moment on DJ Fresh’s podcast, What a Week.
DJ Fresh’s apology shed light on the complexities of their relationship and reflected on the love and forgiveness Thabiso had consistently shown him. “Because this woman personified love, she forgave me more times than I deserved,” he said. “She would relentlessly not give up on me as a human being. Even when she said, ‘maybe we must just cut our losses,’ she said it with love.”
He went on to express his deep regret for any pain he had caused Thabiso, acknowledging that his apology would not have been complete without this public declaration. “The only thing I owe her that was meant to be delivered last week when we recorded the podcast was an apology in public for the heartache I had caused her,” DJ Fresh shared. “I apologized to you and the children, but it was not complete until it was done in public.”
