Veteran Actor Timmy Kwebulana Passes Away at 83

Born in Cape Town, Kwebulana’s career spanned several decades, during which he became a household name through his roles in popular TV shows. He was perhaps best known for his performances in Fishy Feshuns and Mazinyo Dot Q, where his talent and charisma captivated audiences. Another notable role was as Bra Vic Tau, the founder of Shooting Stars FC, in the e.tv drama series Shooting Stars, which aired from 2007 to 2010. In 2012, Kwebulana made a memorable guest appearance on the Mzansi Magic sitcom Chandies.
Beyond his television work, Kwebulana was also deeply involved in the music scene. In 1977, he toured the world with renowned jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim as part of the band Meropa, showcasing his diverse talents as both a musician and performer.
The Kwebulana family released an official statement confirming his death on Friday, 20 September 2024. “It is with sadness that the Kwebulana family officially announces the passing of long-time musician, actor, and director, Mr. Timmy Kwebulana, on the evening of 19 September 2024 after a short illness. We give thanks for his life and all his contributions to us as a family and to the arts and entertainment industry for almost six decades,” the statement read.
The family expressed their hope that Kwebulana’s legacy would continue to inspire both current and future generations. They also acknowledged the outpouring of condolences from fans, colleagues, and the media but requested privacy during this difficult time as they make arrangements for his memorial and funeral services.
