50k lobola heist : Brothers killed in Broad daylight
Tragedy Strikes as Two Brothers Are Fatally Shot Before Paying Lobola
A day intended to bring joy and celebration turned into a heartbreaking tragedy for a family from Nhlwangwini in Hlokozi, KwaZulu-Natal. The family, eagerly awaiting good news, was instead met with devastation when they learned that two of their brothers were shot dead before they could pay lobola on behalf of their sibling.
Thandokuhle Dlamini (38) and Mzwandile Dlamini (45) tragically lost their lives at the entrance of their makoti’s home on Saturday, 24 August. The brothers were reportedly shot by unknown assailants who then fled the scene with the R50,000 lobola money intended for their brother’s bride.
The Dlamini brothers were acting as abakhongi, tasked with negotiating the lobola on behalf of their brother, Bongani Dlamini (41). A family member shared that the brothers had left their home at around 7 a.m., but soon after, the family received the devastating news of their deaths.
“We rushed to the scene and were told that the suspects were driving a VW Polo without a number plate,” the relative recounted, still shaken by the horrific event.
