SAPS Announces 11 Job Vacancies: Apply Before 16 May 2025

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has officially opened applications for 11 job positions, offering employment opportunities in the food service sector within the department. This recruitment drive is ideal for South African citizens who are committed, disciplined, and looking for stable employment in the public service sector.

Among the available positions is one vacancy for a Food Service Supervisor, a crucial role responsible for overseeing food preparation and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations in the food service area. In addition, there are eight vacancies for Food Service Aids, whose primary duties include assisting with the preparation of meals, cleaning of kitchen equipment, maintaining hygiene standards, and supporting general catering functions. These positions are essential to the operation of SAPS catering facilities, ensuring that meals are served efficiently and hygienically to staff and guests.

There are also two vacancies for the post of Cook, whose responsibilities include managing kitchen operations, overseeing mess purchases, cooking nutritious meals according to menu plans, serving food, and ensuring strict compliance with hygiene and safety regulations. Cooks will also be expected to monitor kitchen stock and utensils, ensuring smooth meal preparation and appealing presentation.

To be eligible, applicants must meet several core requirements. Firstly, candidates must be South African citizens who are fluent in at least two official languages, one of which must be English. A Grade 10 qualification is advantageous, though not mandatory. Candidates must possess basic literacy, numeracy, and communication skills, with a minimum of two years’ relevant experience in the food service or catering industry. The ability to read, write, and operate basic kitchen equipment is required, as well as a willingness to work extended hours when needed.

Applicants must also have a clean record, with no previous criminal or departmental convictions or pending cases. As part of the vetting process, candidates will undergo security screening and fingerprint verification. This rigorous process ensures that only qualified and trustworthy individuals are considered for these essential roles.

For all posts, including the cook position, the general responsibilities include maintaining a clean and safe working environment, planning meals, handling food with care, assisting with dish and utensil cleaning, and performing administrative tasks related to catering. Those applying for supervisory roles must also demonstrate the ability to lead a team, manage schedules, and oversee service standards in the kitchen and dining facilities.

These positions are based within SAPS facilities and provide a gateway to long-term employment in a structured and respected environment. Successful candidates will play a key role in ensuring that SAPS staff are well-fed and that catering operations function smoothly on a daily basis.

The closing date for all applications is 16 May 2025. Interested candidates are urged to apply well before the deadline to avoid missing this opportunity.
